What is it that we do at Colonial Pipeline Company?

Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. Colonial transports approximately 45 percent of all fuel consumed on the East Coast, providing refined products to more than 50 million Americans.

About the Director, SCADA (OT Systems and Software Position)

The Director, OT Systems and Software leads a team of managers and technology professionals who develop and maintain the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, the Computational Pipeline Monitoring (CPM) Leak Detection Systems, the Real-Time Nomograph (RTN) Systems, and the Pipeline Training Simulator utilized by Colonial Pipeline Company’s Control Center to operate and monitor 5500 miles of pipelines. This role oversees and maintains Colonial’s SCADA in a high availability/high-reliability environment, developing systems to enhance and optimize operations and implementing systems that detect and minimize the impact of pipeline events. The Director works with Technology and Control Center Leadership in the planning and development of strategies, projects, new functionality, and tools.

What You Get to Do:

  • Leads the lifecycle strategy to ensure an evergreen modernization program of the SCADA and CPM suite of tools and applications.

  • Align with Controls Engineering, Architecture, and Infrastructure leaders to ensure integrations with these environments are planned and implemented.

  • Work with business leaders to define operational analytics requirements and functionality for systems like PI and Historian.

  • Lead Managers and staff through hiring, coaching, resource planning/prioritization, and career planning and development.

  • Directs the SCADA & Pipeline Simulation Systems Team and Department Budget.

  • Works with Technology and Control Center Leadership in the planning and development of strategies, projects, new functionality, and tools.

  • Performs assignments as necessary to implement Corporate, Technology, and SCADA Group goals and initiatives.

  • Researches and recommends innovative technologies, and identifies trends in SCADA / Pipeline. Simulation, leak detection, and enhance processes for efficient management of the department.

  • Works with Operations and Business Development project teams in resource planning and technology selection/ planning for successful due diligence and project execution.

  • Establishes standards for troubleshooting system issues and or failures.

  • Manages relationships with key vendor partners.

  • Represents Colonial with key industry groups.

  • This role supervises other managers and employees, and Colonial expects incumbents in this role to be successful in resolving conflict, team building, and managing performance, including but not limited to providing clear expectations, developing & monitoring goals, holding employees accountable, rewarding, and recognizing employees as well as coaching, motivating and disciplining employees when necessary.

  • As a leader in technology be a change agent by supporting change and focusing on continuously improving on work prioritization.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field of study from an accredited college or university; will consider a combination of experience and/or education.

  • Ideally 12+ years of Control Center or Industrial Controls Technology Development experience or SCADA experience with approximately 7+ years of management experience.

  • Advanced Pipeline Software, SCADA, and Operational Technologies knowledge in a liquid pipeline environment.

  • A change agent by supporting change and focusing on continuously improving on what, and how work is done.

  • Self-motivated, have a phenomenal work ethic and looking for the right company to support your growth.

Got Extra to Bring?

  • Advance Degree in Engineering, or Computer Science from an accredited college or university.

  • Ideally, 12+ years of technology management of Industrial Controls Technology functions for critical infrastructure.

  • SCADA Certification (e.g., AVEVA’s TCSP).

  • Experience with midstream and pipeline companies in a technology role.
